Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineers and engineering students.
Note: Attendees will be asked to make a $10 Donation - $5 for food; $5 for your project or chapter.
Schedule of Events:
1-2pm: BBQ, Volleyball, Croquet, Bocce Ball, Ultimate Frisbee Clinic
2-3pm: Some introductions and reflections on the national conference, incl: Best Practices, Networking, Who's Who etc.
3-4pm: Ultimate Frisbee Tournament for those who want to stick around and represent their chapters.
EWB-NY is looking for candidates for the roles of President Elect and Secretary.
President Elect: Work with the outgoing President for six months learning the various roles and responsibilities of the job before taking on the official role as President. -Responsibilities consist of overseeing chapter operations: Chapter meetings, exec board meetings, working project leads, communicating with EWB-USA, and outreach & networking in and around town. -Requirements: Some experience with EWB (NY or in college), 5-10 hours a week to answer emails and conduct meetings, ability to learn non-profit management skills, desire and vision to see EWB-NY continue to grow in the coming years. 2 Year commitment, (six months as President Elect, 1.5 years as President).
Secretary: AKA, Voice Of the Chapter:
o Write the Newsletters (Huzzah!).
o Make Chapter Announcements.
o Welcoming new Chapter Members and Project Volunteers.
o Answering questions about the Chapter.
* Behind The Scenes
o Coordination of the Executive Board and with the Project Leads.
o Communications with EWB-USA and other Professional Organizations.
o Manage the E-mail Distribution List.
o Update the Facebook/MySpace Pages.
* Rest of The Perks
o Member of the Executive Board.
o Helping EWB-NY and Projects move forward.
o Non-Profit Satisfaction and Working Pride.
o Get rad Business Cards.
o Good for Resume.
o Socializing and having fun meeting and networking with people.

Projects:
Usalama, Kenya School Project: Volunteers are needed to get involved in the development of a comprehensive plan for the development on the school property in the village. The project includes additional classrooms, rainwater harvesting, and planning for future construction. Volunteers of all disciplines including non-technical backgrounds are desired.

Cambodia Dam Project: Construction is underway on a dam to improve rice output for several villages around Balang, Cambodia.

Matunda Health Center Water Project: EWB-NY's newest project, a potable water source for a health center in western Kenya.

Belen Medical Facility Project: In conjunction with EWB-Brown & EWB-SUNY Binghampton, we are designing and constructing a medical facility for the community of Belen, an impovershed village on the outskirts of Iquitos, Peru, deep in the Amazon Rainforest and on a flood plain.

Education Committee: Members of EWB-NY are working on activities for students k-12 with support from EWB-USA, ASME, ASEE & Girl Scouts of America. The program seeks to provide opportunities for EWB-NY members to work with students and teach them about Engineering and about Development.
